Designed for year-round outdoor use with minimal maintenance.
Naturally develops a unique rusted patina over time, creating an attractive weathered finish.
Constructed from thick steel to provide excellent longevity and resistance to corrosion.

If desired, apply Owatrol Oil once the natural patina has fully developed to enhance the appearance of the weathered steel and help preserve its finish.
INSTALLATION & CARE:
Unpack your water bowl immediately after delivery to allow any trapped moisture to escape. Leaving the product wrapped may cause uneven weathering.
Position the bowl on a firm, level surface before filling with water.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
The pedestal is manufactured from genuine corten steel, while the bowl itself is made from durable 3mm S235 steel. Both materials are designed for long-term outdoor use and naturally develop a weathered industrial finish over time.
-
During the initial weathering process, corten steel can produce rust-coloured runoff when exposed to rainwater. This may stain light-coloured stone, porcelain or concrete surfaces beneath the pedestal or bowl. We recommend placing the water feature on gravel, drainage stone or another suitable surface during the weathering period.
-
The corten steel pedestal gradually develops its protective rusted patina over several weeks and months depending on weather conditions. Alternating wet and dry conditions help accelerate the process and create the rich orange-brown finish corten steel is known for.
-
The corten steel pedestal may arrive in either raw steel or partially weathered condition depending on production timing. Unweathered, the steel will naturally develop its protective patina outdoors over time. This is a normal part of the corten steel ageing process and makes every piece unique.
If you would like your U-shaped corten steel pedestal and steel water bowl pre-weathered please select this option when making your purchase.
-
Yes. Both the corten steel pedestal and steel water bowl are designed for year-round outdoor use and require very little maintenance.
-
Yes. The shallow steel bowl can provide a valuable water source for birds, bees and other garden wildlife. Positioning the water feature among planting creates a welcoming habitat, while adding a few small stones or pebbles gives insects a safe place to land and drink. Regularly topping up the water and keeping the bowl clean will help keep it attractive for visiting wildlife. Why not add some aquatic plants to encourage wildlife. For more tips on creating a wildlife-friendly garden, see The Wildlife Trusts' guide to providing water for wildlife
-
To keep the water feature looking its best, we recommend changing the water periodically and removing leaves or debris when required.
-
Yes, although we recommend emptying the bowl during periods of severe frost to help prevent standing ice and prolong the lifespan of the finish.
-
During the early stages of weathering, some rust particles may enter the water and slightly discolour it. This is a natural part of the steel weathering process and will reduce over time as the patina stabilises.
-
No. Unlike painted finishes, corten steel develops a stable outer patina that protects the material beneath. The finish will continue maturing naturally without peeling or chipping.
For customers looking to reduce rust transfer or preserve the appearance of the weathered finish, products such as Owatrol Corten Steel Varnish can be applied once the desired patina has developed.
-
Very little maintenance is required. Occasional cleaning and topping up of water is generally all that’s needed to keep the feature looking its best year-round.
-
The open design gives the water feature a lighter architectural appearance while allowing more of the surrounding landscaping to remain visible.
The open U-shaped pedestal allows ornamental grasses and low-growing plants to grow beneath the bowl, creating sheltered areas that blend the water feature naturally into wildlife-friendly planting schemes.
-
Yes. As the steel naturally weathers, every pedestal develops slightly different colours and markings, making each piece unique.
Customer Reviews
“I recently messaged Rust and Roast on their Facebook page about ordering, Michael responded very quickly and was super helpful. I placed my order and it took a few weeks to arrive, The planters were a little bit fiddly to put together with no instructions But it was pretty self-explanatory to be honest. The planters seem sturdy. I ordered two 2 meter planters, They’ve been in around two weeks now And are already starting to rust. Our garden project isn’t finished yet, nowhere near. But these were our starting point. Highly recommend this company, Customer service is outstanding, even checked once the order had arrived if everything was okay.”
“Purchased a Corten steel water table and edging. Absolutely beautiful addition to the garden. Really good quality - incredibly well fabricated. Highly recommend!”
